What no one tells you when you move out for the first time
Growing up is a scary thing, and no one can stop it. We all kind of have to just go through the motions that come with growing up and becoming more and more independent. When we were younger we had the support of our parents that would help us clean, cook, drive us places, and keep our life organized and planned out. When we go to college we are on our own. It is time for us to step up and start creating our life the way we want it. Independence can be a great thing, but also a very intimidating and overwhelming thing. What no one tells you when you move out is that every aspect of your life is now in your hands. What took me most of a shock was you now have to feed yourself. I know everyone's experience is different, but I think many forget the expenses and time that it takes to constantly be feeding yourself on top of all of the different things going on in your life. My main thing that I had to learn was time management to plan out these different aspects of your life. I am someone who really prioritizes health and wellness, and growing up I have always been fed healthy well rounded meals, but I never learned how to cook it myself. Moving into a home this year with great roommates I have begun to notice how easy it can be to make healthy nourishing meals that keep us feeling healthy, but are also manageable in college. Also not to mention the expenses behind grocery shopping in general. What I had to learn was that you will fly through your groceries fast, and you need to be smart with it. Originally, and I still am at fault for this sometimes, is going to the grocery store and just getting a bunch of snacks not food to cook. What I plan to get better at over the next couple weeks is cooking myself nourishing meals on a budget and with little time. I also want to share easy cheap to go meals that anyone can order, and it is important to actively choose healthy meals. It can be hard in college to always choose the healthy option when there is so much convenient fast food around, and it can take a lot of motivation to cook and clean and plan the whole meal. I want to also share the importance of nourishing your body in college, and how health is one of the most important things to keep your body and mind functioning with proper energy. I know how easy it is to have fast food and just look the other way, but once you start eating just a little bit healthy and choosing to be aware of what you are putting in your body, your mind becomes clearer and you begin feeling better. I am here to share that we are in this together and it is scary to be on your own, but it is possible to start working in healthy easy cooking into your everyday life, and it is not as scary as we think it might be.
